The Footsteps therapy programme
Our therapists design individual kinetic therapy programmes based on neuro-improving techniques, utilising elements of NDT-Bobath (Neurodevelopmental Treatment), PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) and conventional rehabilitation. The therapy also utilises a device called the Spider - click on the link to read more about it. This involves a variety of exercises, concentrating on creating movement functions such as rolling over, supporting, reaching, grasping and holding. It also teaches patients to shift their body weight and move from one place to another, enabling greater mobility and independence, and encouraging increased self-confidence. These fundamental elements enable a child to attain the correct body position for crawling, sitting, kneeling, one-legged kneeling, standing and the ability to maintain these positions and change them independently – all functions essential to achieving an independent life. We use therapeutic equipment such as balls, rolls, trampolines and ladders to facilitate the therapy.
