The Therapeutic Equipment

The equipment used at Footsteps is state of the art and not seen anywhere else in the UK.

The Spider

The Spider is loved by young and older children alike. Developed in Poland, the Spider enables therapists to implement a full course of exercises in any chosen position and to align the body properly by using a series of elastic ropes.

These exercises allow a child to undergo kinaesthetic, touch and motion experiences, which help in the development of balancing reactions. The fundamental elements of the Spider enable a child to attain the correct body position for crawling, sitting, kneeling, one-legged kneeling, standing and the ability to maintain these positions and change them independently.

The Spider can teach a child to shift their body weight and move from one place to another, enabling greater mobility and independence. So for instance whilst a child may not be able to stand independently at home, the Spider gives them the support in order to do so.

Children and young adults enjoy these exercises enormously because they are great fun, develop confidence and promote faith in their growing abilities and progress.

Other Equipment

We also use traditional therapeutic equipment such as balls, trampolines, treadmills, balance boards and ladders which help to stimulate the correct neurological activity in the children during NDT-Bobath and PNF therapy. The large range of equipment also enables us to make the exercises varied and interesting and we often incorporate games and toys to encourage young children to become involved in and enjoy their therapy.
